CHEST TO CHEST PINNING (KIDS 101/ADULT 101)
Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.
Game 1: Chest to Chest with Covered Hips
Top Player:
- Position: Sitting on top of your partner straddling their torso with your hips connected to their hips.
- Objective: Clear hands, get under or behind your partner’s elbows, and initiate chest to chest or chest to back contact.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Establish chest to chest or chest to back contact and lock your hands..
Bottom Player
- Position: Hands on top player
- Objective: Focus on creating space between your body and your partner, and then occupying that space before they do.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Get your legs back in front of your partner and return to the seated or standing position.
Reset if either player wins.
Game 2: Chest to Chest with Uncovered Hips
Top Player:
- Position: Sitting on top of your partner straddling their torso with your hips connected to their belly button.
- Objective: Clear hands, get under or behind your partner’s elbows, and initiate chest to chest or chest to back contact.

- Position: Hands on top player
- Objective: Focus on creating space between your body and your partner, and then occupying that space before they do.

- Win Condition: Get your legs back in front of your partner and return to the seated or standing position.

Game 4: Climbing the Back
Top Player:
- Position: On your knees with your partner’s hips connected to your shoulder outside of your arms with their legs wrapped around your torso.
- Objective: Break your partner’s grips and control of your upper body in order to gain upright posture.
- Constraints: Do not attempt to open or pass your partner’s guard. Do not stand.
- Win Condition: Return to a standing position, seated position, or bring your knees or feet between you and your partner.
Bottom Player
- Position: On your side with your hips connected to your partner’s shoulder outside of their arms and with your legs wrapped around their torso.
- Objective: Focus on maintaining your connection to your partner and using it to transition to chest to back contact.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: You achieve chest to back contact and maintain it for three seconds.

Game 5: Hip to Shoulder Connection
Top Player:
- Position: On your knees with your partner’s legs around your torso and their feet hooked behind you.
- Objective: Break your partner’s grips and control of your upper body and arms.
- Constraints: Do not attempt to open or pass your partner’s guard. Do not stand.
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player
- Position: On your back with your legs wrapped around your partner’s torso with your feet hooked together behind them.
- Objective: Create meaningful connection with your partner and use it to control their posture. Do not let them gain an upright posture.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Your hips are connected to your partner’s shoulder outside of their arms.

6 Minute Round: Live round with a partner. Start standing if you are able to do so safely. Otherwise pick the starting position from one of the previous games and start there. Roll to submission, reset, and continue. Repeat as many times as possible before the round ends.

Top Player:
- Position: Behind your partner with chest to back contact and your hands locked around their waist.
- Objective: Get your hands connected to the hips and shoulders simultaneously. Maintain chest to back connection and back exposure for as long as possible.
- Constraints: Do not puncture hooks or submit your opponent.
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player
- Position: In front of your partner with your hands and knees on the ground, their chest contacting your back, and their hands locked around your waist.
- Objective: Use movement to create space and improve your position.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Turn and face your partner by any means necessary.
Reset if bottom player wins.
Game 3: Submissions from Chest to Back
Top Player:
- Position: Behind your partner with chest to back contact, a single leg wrapped around their torso with your foot covering their hip, one arm wrapped over their shoulder, the other arm wrapped under their armpit, and your hands connected.
- Objective: Maintain chest to back contact while hunting for submissions.
- Constraints: Do not puncture the second hook. Only close your legs around your partner while attacking an upper body submission.
- Win Condition: Successfully submitting your opponent.
Bottom Player
- Position: In front of your partner with their chest contacting your back, a single leg wrapped around your torso with the foot covering your hip, one arm wrapped over your shoulder, the other arm wrapped under your armpit, and their hands connected.
- Objective: Use movement to create space and improve your position.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Turn and face your partner by any means necessary.

Game 4: Punishing Posts
Top Player:
- Position: On your knees with your partner’s legs around your torso and their feet hooked together behind you.
- Objective: Maintain posture and keep your hands on your opponent. If your post gets trapped fight out back to an upright posture.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player
- Position:On your back with your legs wrapped around your partner’s torso with your feet hooked together behind them.
- Objective: Make strong meaningful connection anywhere on the body to try to remove the the hands and destabilize your partner forwards or backwards by using pushing and pulling of the legs. Cause your partner to post. Puhish the post by trapping it with underhooks and overhooks.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: None

Game 5: Isolation the Arm
Top Player:
- Position: On your knees with your partner’s legs around your torso and their feet hooked together behind you.
- Objective:Maintain upright posture and keep your hands on your partner.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Fighting back to posture.
Bottom Player
- Position: On your back with your legs wrapped around your partner’s torso with your feet hooked together behind them. Start with one arm either hooked over their shoulder or one arm hooked under their armpit.
- Objective: Separate the hands and work your way towards the arm in arm out scenario.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Achieving the arm in arm out scenario.

TUESDAY
STRAIGHT ARM LOCKS (KIDS 201/COMP CLASS)
Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.
Game 1: Maintain the Finish
Top Player:
- Position: On your back with your partner’s arm isolated between your legs with their forearm held to your chest.
- Objective: Maintain control of your partner’s arm.
- Constraints: Do not finish the submission.
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player
- Position: On your back with one arm isolated between your partner’s legs and with your forearm on their chest.
- Objective: Escape by any means.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Breaking free of your partner’s control.
Reset if either player wins.
Game 2: Separate the Hands
Top Player:
- Position: Sitting up, perpendicular to your partner, one arm deep elbow to elbow hook, and the other arm posting or hooking the leg, with your partner’s arm between your legs.
- Objective: Maintain control of your partner’s arm, and break their grip, so you can isolate one arm.
- Constraints: Do not finish the submission.
- Win Condition: Break the grip between their hands and keep them separated.
Bottom Player
- Position: Start in the position pictured above.
- Objective: Resist your partner’s attempts to hold you down.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: You free your arm or are able to get your back off of the mat.

Game 3: The Transition
Top Player:
- Position: Start in top S mount.
- Objective: Maintain your structure and hold your partner down as they move underneath you.
- Constraints: Do not separate your partner’s hands or finish the submission.
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player
- Position: Start in bottom S mount.
- Objective: Resist your partner’s attempts to hold you down.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: You free your arm or are able to get your back off of the mat.

Game 4: Open Guard Connections
Top Player:
- Position: Standing with one of your partner’s feet connected to one of your legs.
- Objective: Use hands to keep your partner’s connections broken and your feet free.
- Constraints: Stay as close to your partner as possible.
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player
- Position: Lying on your back with one knee retracted to your chest and elbows in. One leg should be extended with the foot connected to one of your partner’s legs.
- Objective: Keep your feet between you and your partner. Make and maintain connections to the inside of your partner’s legs using your hands and feet.
- Constraints: No sweeps allowed
- Win Condition: None

Game 5: Open Guard Sweeping
Top Player:
- Position: Standing disconnected from your partner near their feet.
- Objective: Clear the line of the feet and advance to the line of the knees either outside or inside your partner’s legs. Hold this position for as long as possible.
- Constraints: Stay as close to your partner as possible.
- Win Condition: None
Bottom Player
- Position: Lying on your back with your knees retracted to your chest and elbows in near your knees.
- Objective: Make and maintain connections to inside position using your hands and feet and then use those connections to destabilize your partner.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Off balance your partner forcing them either onto their hands or their butt. If they land on their butt immediately reset and continue. If they land on their hands hold them in that position for as long as you can.

Bottom Player
- Position: On your back with your legs wrapped around your partner’s torso with your feet hooked together behind them.

Game 4: Elbow Exposure
Top Player:
- Position: Sitting on top of your partner straddling their torso.
- Objective: Trap your partner’s wrist to the floor either on the same side or the cross side of their head to expose the elbows. Once the elbows are exposed extend the elbows away from the centerline towards the head or in towards the centerline by any means neccessary
- Constraints: No submissions – only wrist pinning allowed.
- Win Condition: Partner’s elbows are exposed and extended or contracted.
Bottom Player
- Position: On your back with your opponent straddling your torso.
- Objective: Keep your hands pointed at your partner’s hips, work to destabilize your partner, and bring your knees back in front.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Knees are brought back in front of your partner.

Game 5: Covering the Shoulders
Top Player:
- Position: Sitting on top of your partner straddling their torso.
- Objective: Trap your partner’s wrist to the floor either on the same side or the cross side of their head to expose the elbows. Once the elbows are exposed extend the elbows away from the centerline towards the head or in towards the centerline by any means neccessary. Slide up and turn to face the shoulder line while trapping it between your knee and foot.
- Constraints: No submissions – only wrist pinning allowed.
- Win Condition: Partner’s elbows are exposed and extended or contracted.
Bottom Player
- Position: On your back with your opponent straddling your torso.
- Objective: Keep your hands pointed at your partner’s hips, work to destabilize your partner, and bring your knees back in front.

TURTLE (KIDS 101/ADULT 101)
Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.
Game 1: Covering the Head and Shoulders
Top Player:
- Position: In front of your partner with your chest connected to their shoulder blades.
- Objective: Focus on keeping your partner’s head and shoulders covered for as long as possible.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: None.
Bottom Player
- Position: Underneath your partner with your hands (or elbows) and knees on the ground.
- Objective: Focus on breaking your partner’s chest to back connection by connecting to their legs and using that connection to improve your position.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Exit your position into an entanglement where you are connected to one or both of your partner’s legs.
Reset if either player wins.
Game 2: Cracking the Egg
Top Player:
- Position: In front of your partner with your chest connected to their shoulder blades.
- Objective: Focus on breaking your partner down and getting their hips to the mat, their shoulders to the mat, or chest to back contact with their hips covered (hooks in).
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Partner’s hips or shoulders are touching the mat.
Bottom Player
- Position: Underneath your partner with your hands (or elbows) and knees on the ground.
- Objective: Focus on standing or getting your legs between you and your partner.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Either stand up or transition to a position where your legs are between you and your partner.
Reset if either player wins.
Game 3: Turtle and Front Headlock
Top Player:
- Position: Connected with one hand on the chin and one hand on the elbow.
- Objective: Continuously try to keep your partner’s hands on the mat and continuously cover their head.
- Constraints: No submissions allowed.
- Win Condition: Achieving chest to back contact.
Bottom Player
- Position: On your hands and knees with your partner covering your head with one hand on your chin and one hand on your elbow.
- Objective: Try to relieve yourself from the situation by freeing your head.
- Constraints: None.
- Win Condition: Stand up or bring your feet between you and your partner.
Reset if either player wins.
Game 4: Completing the Grip
Top Player:
- Position: On top of your partner with chest to chest contact lying perpendicular to their torso. Your arm furthest from their head should be holding the wrist of their far arm. Your other arm can be anywhere that you choose.
- Objective: Focus on maintaining control of your partner’s far arm using your figure four grip.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Achieving a two on one grip with one hand holding their wrist and the other reinforcing it in a figure four.
Bottom Player
- Position: On your back with your partner on top of you lying perpendicular to your torso with chest to chest contact. They should be holding one of your wrists with one hand.
- Objective: Create space and movement in order to allow improvement of your position.
- Constraints: None.
- Win Condition: Bring your feet between you and your partner or reverse the position

Game 5: Submission Hunting
Top Player:
- Position: On top of your partner with chest to chest contact lying perpendicular to their torso.
- Objective: Focus on isolating one or more of your partner’s limbs or achieving chest to back contact in preparation for applying a submission.
- Constraints: None.
- Win Condition: Achieve a figure four grip from top side control, an extended arm connected to your partner’s head while in mount, or an exposed back with solidified chest to back contact with an over/under grip (seatbelt).
Bottom Player
- Position: On your back with your partner on top of you lying perpendicular to your torso with chest to chest contact.
- Objective: Create space and movement in order to allow improvement of your position.
- Constraints: None.
- Win Condition: Bring your feet between you and your partner or reverse the position.

Game 1: Connection and Movement
Attacking Player:
- Position: One of your partner’s legs is held immobilized between your legs using your hands and arms.
- Objective: Stay connected to the single leg and single leg situation. Move your partner around. Move the single leg to different parts of your body.
- Constraints: No takedowns.
- Win Condition: None
Defending Player
- Position: Your partner has a single leg grip, and you are balanced on one foot.
- Objective: Stay balanced and remove your leg from the situation by any means.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Leg is removed from the single leg situation.
- Reset if bottom player wins.
Game 2: Connection and Destabilization
Attacking Player:
- Position: One of your partner’s legs is held with your hands and arms between your legs.
- Objective: Stay connected to the single leg and single leg situation. Move your partner around. Move the single leg to different parts of your body, and attempt to take your partner down to their hips or hands.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Taking partner down to their hips or hands.
Defending Player
- Position: Your partner has a single leg grip, and you are balanced on one foot.
- Objective: Stay balanced and remove your leg from the situation by any means.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Leg is removed from the single leg situation.
Reset if bottom player wins.
Game 3: Achieve Chest to Back Connection
Top Player:
- Position: On the ground with your hands wrapped around your partner’s waist.
- Objective: Create chest to back contact and maintain it for as long as possible
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: If your partner hides their back establish chest to chest contact and connecting your hands in any way.
Bottom Player
- Position: Facing away from your partner.
- Objective: Get your legs back in front of your partner and return to the seated or standing position.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Turn to face your partner, get your legs back in front, and return to the seated or standing position.
Reset if either player wins.
Game 4: Cover the Hips
Top Player:
- Position: Alternate between starting with your partner on their back with your hands locked around their waist and with your partner facing away with your hands locked around their waist.
- Objective: Create chest to back contact and maintain it for as long as possible
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Initiate chest to chest or chest to back contact and then cover your partner’s hips.
Bottom Player
- Position: Alternate between starting on your back with your partner’s hands locked around your waist or facing away from your partner with their hands locked around your waist.
- Objective: Get your legs back in front of your partner and return to the seated or standing position.
- Constraints: None
- Win Condition: Turn to face your partner, get your legs back in front, and return to the seated or standing position.

6 Minute Round: Steady progress continues. Emphasis on not being flattened out needs to be added to pinning games to improve performance. When participants have a wrestling background use external queues and differential learning to help break free of some of the attractor wells left over from wrestling. Create a lockdown game. Recordings are really great for review and intention setting in subsequent sessions. Look into sourcing a tripod and camera.
